Friends of George’s is committed to making our website and our performances welcoming to everyone, including patrons with disabilities. We want every visitor to be able to find what they need online and enjoy a show in person without unnecessary barriers. This statement explains where we are, what we are working toward, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.
Our Website
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the widely recognized standard for accessible web content. We are working toward that standard across our site and treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a one-time fix.
Current efforts include:
- Clear, consistent navigation and a “skip to content” link on every page
- Text alternatives for meaningful images
- Readable color contrast and resizable text
- Labels on contact and donation form fields
- Compatibility with current browsers and common assistive technologies
We test as we build and correct issues as we find them. Some older content may not yet meet every guideline. If you encounter a page that does not work for you, please tell us using the contact details below, and we will help directly and prioritize a fix.
The Evergreen Theatre
Our productions are staged at the Evergreen Theatre, 1705 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38104, in the Overton Square arts district. We want every patron to be able to attend comfortably.
- Wheelchair-accessible seating. Two wheelchair spaces are available, marked on the seating map at checkout so you and your party can sit together.
- Accessible entry. The front entrance is step-free.
If you have a seating need, a mobility need, or any other request that would help you enjoy the show, contact us before you book and we will do our best to arrange it. The sooner we hear from you, the more we can do.
Requesting an Accommodation or Reporting a Barrier
If you run into a barrier on our website or have a question about accessibility at a performance, we want to hear from you. Please send us a message through our contact form and include:
- The page, show, or situation involved
- What you were trying to do
- The accommodation or fix that would help
We will respond as promptly as we can and work with you toward a solution. There is no formal process to navigate and no wrong way to ask.
Ongoing Commitment
Accessibility is never finished. As we update our website and produce new work, we will keep testing, keep listening, and keep improving. If you have feedback that would make our site or our shows more welcoming, we would be glad to receive it.
